Demiurge Studios was behind the recent PC docking for BioWare’s previously Xbox360 exclusive sci-fi RPG, the galaxy spanning Mass Effect.
In an interview with Shacknews, Demiurge’s studio head Albert Reed talks about what life’s like as an independent development studio today.
Reed talks about his team’s most recent escapade being the PC port of Mass Effect, on which they worked on for ”14 months.”
Adding his two cents on piracy too, he says ”it’s a big problem at the sort of financial investment side, how much companies are willing to invest in the PC versions of their game when they’re worried that it’s just gonna be downloaded for free.”
”It’s a problem for developers, because it affects royalties and those sorts of things. It’s something that we all need to stress about and worry about. But it’s not really my area of expertise. I don’t know what the right solution is,” he continued.
He admits he was ”absolutely” nervous about tinkering with the already successful Mass Effect but that the Demiurge team ”worked really hard to get the min spec down to something that we felt that would be accessible to as many people as was possible. We think we have nice modest system requirements, but also, if you can get one of those 30 inch, 8-bajillion pixel monitors, it looks incredible.”
