Warren Spector has voiced the primary reason why he let Junction Point be acquired by Disney was he wants to be able to compete in the triple-A space, but knows as an independent developer that’s just crazy these days.
Mounting costs and quality are major headaches for the little guys out there and Spector can now enjoy the “freedom” to create and develop.
”I want to make big, epic, stupidly complicated, really hard to make, frightening to develop sort-of games”, says Spector.
He also touched on story-telling within the games industry during an interview with Develop, writers for games could ”learn something from screenwriters.”
”For the past couple of years I’ve been reading a lot of scripts, and what I’ve noticed is that they can communicate really complex emotions in very few words. Less is more,” he comments. ”But game writers really need to learn to scale back a bit. It’s almost like it’s a badge of honour that you have 250,000 lines of dialogue. How about we try to communicate the same emotions in a lot less?”
The gaming luminary has certainly got pedigree within the industry; Deus Ex is still a benchmark title. Click here to read the interview between Warren Spector and Develop.
