In an interview with Strategy Informer, Left 4 Dead 2’s writer, Chet Faliszek confirmed that Valve aren’t done with the Left 4 Dead franchise yet, and that the firm is already talking about what it’ll do next.

”I definitely want to live in the world of Left 4 Dead for a while yet. We’re not done.” said Faliskzek. “I think people will see that we have some bigger things than they first realised and so what that means for gamers, we’ll see. We’re at the point now where we’re talking about what we’re going to be doing next.”
