TechRadar is reporting that several sources have suggested the Oculus Rift might get a public Beta as early as April 2015.
According to ”multiple sources with knowledge of the matter”, Oculus is planning to launch its completed headset in a limited rollout, much like Google did this year with the Google Glass, but slightly less irritatingly hipsterish.
The rollout will apparently happen ”by Summer next year”. One source suggested that April 2015 was the initial intended release target, but that the date might very well get pushed back. The limited launch is intended to help Oculus gauge the level of interest in the hardware - and presumably build up the hype ahead of a general release.
The gadget’s creator Palmer Luckey told Eurogamer recently that the Oculus would ”stay in that $200-$400 price range,” though he admitted that the price might creep up or down depending on ”scale, pre-orders, the components we end up using, business negotiations…” and so on.
Oculus VR has elected not to comment on these rumours so far.
