Former Call of Duty developers James Chung and Taehoon Oh have together found Reload Studios.
Taking a break from their previous job creating first-person shooters, the team are already hard at work creating a new first-person shooter property ”for VR and mobile devices and next-gen consoles”.
The new studio is made up of 12 staff members, all from either CoD developers Infinity Ward or Heavy Iron, who are probably best known for creating licensed games for Disney and other properties. It seems like Reload will have a heavy VR focus.
“When I first saw what the latest round of VR devices could do, I realized these were not just peripherals but brand new platforms that could transform the way we experience, interact with and create media,” writes Chung in a message on the studio’s website. “It was the perfect time to follow my passion and bring together the most talented people I know under one roof to form a development culture that promotes creativity and collaboration.”You can see an incomplete list of the studio’s staff here. Interestingly one of the names listed is Nik Ranieri, a former character animator for Disney who was laid off last year. Given the proportion of former Heavy Iron team members, who’ve worked on franchises like Epic Mickey 2 and The Incredibles, does this mean the studio may be working on further Disney properties or other more family friendly fare along with those big-budget first-person shooters?
Reload say their first FPS game is due out next year.
