Adventure games with hand-drawn graphics are becoming a rarer breed these days, so imagine our delight when we found out Forgotlings, a follow-up to 2018’s Forgotton Anne, was released back in February. It stars a living posing doll who’s the captain of a sentient lightship. That alone should pique your curiosity, but there’s more.
The award-winning narrative adventure (NYX Game Awards 2026) comes from developer Throughline Games, a studio “focusing on story-driven games with high artistic ambitions” thanks to combined experiences from the film, animation, and game industries.
Fig is the main character of this story set in the Forgotten Lands, a magical world inhabited by the titular forgotlings, “creatures composed of mislaid objects longing to be remembered again”. From the characters to the animations to the many background landscapes, Forgotlings is handcrafted every step of the way and the result of raw human creativity.
The gameplay includes real-time swordplay, sneak attacks, and exploration. Moreover, INA, “a cherished board game that fosters unity in a fractured world” adds a layer of diplomacy and persuasion that fleshes out the Forgotten Lands and its inhabitants as you try to “win the trust and respect of the five forgotten tribes”.
Unsurprisingly, choices that reshape Fig’s journey and relationships are also at the centre of the experience. Every dialogue and interaction is elevated by a full voice cast and “an evocative score featuring the renowned choir ensemble Theatre of Voices“, rounding out the premium presentation of an overlooked adventure that we’re delighted to have uncovered before it launches on consoles as well.
Forgotlings is now available on PC via Steam. Console versions are coming at a later date, so stay tuned for updates.
